SAFETY SIGNS FOR KOALAS ON APPIN ROAD
THE NSW Government has taken further action to protect koalas by installing an additional two signs along Appin Road, a well-known koala crossing between the Rosemeadow and Appin township. The additional signs, which join two preexisting signs, send a strong message to motorists to take precautions as they enter the frequently used koala crossing. The installation has been timed for the lead up to the summer breeding season which is when koalas are most active. These efforts are part of a wider campaign by the NSW Government to protect koalas and other native wildlife in an area experiencing rapid population and traffic growth. The NSW Government works with local councils and the community to ensure the safety of koalas with a determination on fauna protection measures. Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren said: “This is an important local initiative for our community to ensure that we are protecting the Campbelltown koala colony of over 175 koalas. Safety and health of koalas is a key pillar of the NSW Koala Strategy, which prioritises action to reduce vehicle strikes in hotspots across NSW."
