GOVT'S RECORD $9.2B EDUCATION INVESTMENT

Delivering new schools in growth areas
THE NSW Government will invest $9.2B in school infrastructure over the next four years under the 2026-27 NSW Budget, delivering new schools and major upgrades in key growth areas, including Menangle Park.

Western Sydney is a key focus of the investment, with $4.1B allocated to new and upgraded schools across some of the state’s fastest-growing communities.

The funding includes a new public primary school with co-located early learning facilities at Menangle Park, helping cater for the area’s rapidly expanding population.

The latest commitment builds on the Government’s existing program of 260 new and upgraded schools and public preschools currently being delivered across NSW.

Alongside infrastructure investment, the Government says it is strengthening the education workforce by transitioning more than 25,000 teachers and school support staff from temporary contracts to permanent positions.

The abolition of the previous wage cap has also made NSW teachers the highest paid in Australia, helping reduce teacher shortages and retain experienced staff.

The Governmenmt says teacher vacancies have fallen to their lowest level in 12 years, while the number of merged and cancelled classes has halved since Labor came to office.

Academic outcomes have also improved, with NSW students now ranking first or equal first nationally across a range of writing, reading, grammar and numeracy measures.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said the Government had spent the past three years rebuilding public education after years of underinvestment.

“Families want world-class public schools close to where they live, with less time spent commuting and renewed confidence in public education,” she said.

Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said the investment was about more than buildings, describing education as a pathway to greater opportunities for working families regardless of where they live.

Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren welcomed the funding for Menangle Park, saying communities in South West Sydney had long experienced housing growth without the accompanying schools and essential services needed to support families.

He said the Government's record investment will help ensure every child in NSW has access to quality education delivered by qualified teachers in modern learning environments.
