GETTING A GRIP ON VIRTUAL REALITY

CAMPBELLTOWN Visitor Information is offering a unique virtual reality tour for visitors and locals to experience some of the city's most popular attractions.

The free virtual reality experience is having regular showings throughout 2023.

The experience includes a virtual tour of the beautiful Dharawal National Park, where visitors can appreciate the natural beauty of the area/

Additionally, visitors can explore The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan while keeping an eye out for dinosaurs that might pop up along the way.

The experience also includes a visit to the Campbelltown Arts Centre, where visitors can unleash their creativity and enjoy a splash of color.

For thrill-seekers, the virtual reality experience offers a hair-raising Fastlane Go Karting experience that is sure to get hearts racing.

All of these unique experiences can be accessed at the Campbelltown Visitor Information Centre, which is home to the historic Quondong Cottage.

In fact, visitors who participate in this virtual reality experience will feel like they have stepped back in time, sitting in a building that is 183-years-old. The centre also offers visitors a chance to see koalas up close, explore an old school room and peruse an abundance of brochures to help plan their next holiday or stay-cation.

MORE POLICE FOR OUR REGION

AN additional 50 police officers will be deployed throughout Southwest Sydney under a Chris Minns NSW Labor Govermment.

The $13M investment would see the additional police deployed throughout Narellan, Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields.

Currently there are about 430 officers who form part of the Campbelltown and Camden police area commands.

Response times for urgent calls in Camden and Campbelltown were 10 minutes and 15 seconds and 8 minutes and 43 seconds, respectively, in the 2021-22 period.

This is compared to Surry Hills, which had an average response time of 4 minutes and 5 seconds.

Campbelltown MP Greg Warren said a greater police presence would be a big win for the communities of Campbelltown and Camden.

“Our men and women in blue do a tremendous job keeping our community safe,” he said.

“These additional officers will have an enormous impact here in Campbelltown and on the other side of the west of the Hume Highway in Camden.”

RETIRED GREYHOUNDS JOIN THE POLCE FORCE

RETIRED greyhounds will be retrained as PTSD companion animals for the Australian Federal Police in a world-first initiative.

The program is a collaboration between the Australian Federal Police Association, Greyhound Racing NSW, and Greyhounds Australasia.

The benefits of pet ownership and support animals for people with PTSD are significant. Police officers are at a higher risk of acquiring mental health injuries and PTSD due to their busy work life, isolation, and on-call rosters.

Bonding with a support animal can provide independence, routines, exercise, and social independence. The announcement of this partnership is less than three months after GRNSW and GA's announcement to supply greyhounds as pets to the Police Association of NSW, which has already shown successful adoptions and a demand for PTSD dogs.

The retraining of greyhounds opens a new career for non-racing greyhounds and highlights the therapeutic benefit they can bring to those suffering from anxiety disorders.
