Call for medicinal cannabis controls
LEADING NSW health organisations have urged the State Government to tighten regulation of medicinal cannabis, warning that profit-driven telehealth clinics and "closed loop" prescribing models are compromising patient care. The RACGP, Pharmacy Guild, PSA and AMA say more than one million Australians now use medicinal cannabis, despite most products lacking TGA approval. The groups are calling for prescriptions to be managed by patients' regular GPs and dispensed through community pharmacies, arguing reforms are needed to improve oversight, patient safety and continuity of care.
