April Alvarez recently took in a kitten she found in her family’s shed that ended up giving birth to three kittens itself!
Inspired to help more animals in need, April decided she wanted to raise some money for RSPCA NSW and put together a presentation she gave at a school assembly which resulted in $600 worth of donations.
Once Steve caught wind of April’s actions, he decided to personally invite her down to our Yagoona shelter for a behind-the-scenes tour.
“We were recently contacted via our Contact Centre by the father of April Alvarez, a compassionate 12-year-old student from Ingleburn who raised $600 for RSPCA NSW,” RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman said.
“April also took a mother cat and her newborn kittens into her care after they were discovered in the family’s back shed — a remarkable act of kindness for someone so young.
“Through our Keeping Cats Safe at Home program, we were able to desex all of the cats free of charge.
“We approached April’s school to explore the possibility of acknowledging her efforts at a school assembly; however, this offer was declined. Wanting to ensure April still received the recognition she truly deserves; we instead invited her and her family for a behind-the-scenes tour of our Yagoona facility.
“It’s incredibly important to us to highlight and celebrate the generosity and empathy shown by young people like April. She embodies the spirit of compassion that our organisation strives to inspire in the community.”
April and her family were shown around our Yagoona shelter on Saturday with the guest of honour even getting a photo with Santa!
“Our family had a wonderful experience meeting with Steve and the team, and we are truly grateful for the time and care shown to us,” April’s father, Achilles said.
“We want to acknowledge Steve and his team for recognising April’s small act of kindness and turning it into something so special, without her ever expecting anything in return. We are also deeply appreciative of the assistance provided in arranging procedures for the kittens in our care.”
