NEW SUBURB OF BARKER ON THE MAP

7,000 new homes planned for the area
A NEW suburb has officially joined Sydney’s rapidly growing south-west, with Barker gazetted by the Geographical Names Board of NSW as the new name for an area previously forming part of Bringelly.

The announcement gives the emerging community a distinct identity as it prepares for significant growth, with more than 7,000 homes planned across the precinct.

Among the developments helping shape the suburb is the Birling estate, being delivered by the Cameron Brae Group.

The newly named suburb sits at the heart of one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions, close to the future Western Sydney International Airport, the emerging Bradfield City Centre and major transport corridors that are transforming the area.

First-home buyer Sanjana Sreejith, who purchased land at Birling, said she was excited to be among the first residents to call Barker home.

“It’s not often you get the chance to be part of a brand-new suburb from the very beginning,” she said.

Ms Sreejith said Barker’s location and long-term growth prospects were major attractions, describing the area as a future-focused community that balances lifestyle and opportunity.

She said the Birling masterplan, with its emphasis on sustainability, open space and liveability, aligned strongly with her values.

Cameron Brae Group CEO Angus Dawson said the gazettal of Barker marked an important milestone in creating a strong community identity.

“This is about more than housing—we’re helping to bring an entirely new suburb to life,” Mr Dawson said.

He said Birling would play a key role in the development of Barker by providing family-friendly housing while maintaining strong connections to jobs, transport and essential services.

Major infrastructure planning is already underway to support the suburb’s growth, including road upgrades, utility connections and coordination with service providers to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with new housing development.

Residents will also benefit from broader investment across South West Sydney, including new transport, education and employment opportunities linked to the airport and Aerotropolis.

The suburb is named after Thomas Barker, an early landowner and builder of the heritage-listed Maryland House.

The area also has a much longer history, with deep cultural connections to Country maintained by First Nations peoples for thousands of years. The Lowes Creek corridor remains an important environmental and cultural asset within the precinct.

Strong demand continues at Birling, with the first two stages already sold and settled and further stages currently on the market as buyers seek opportunities in one of Sydney’s newest and fastest-growing communities.
