NEW PARK OPENS AT APPIN

From pastureland to community destination
A NEW new recreational space has officially opened in Sydney's rapidly growing south-west, with the NSW Government unveiling the 17-hectare Toggerai Park at Appin as part of its Parks for People program.

Located just north of Appin's town centre, the park transforms former pastureland into a modern community destination featuring walking trails, nature-based play areas, picnic facilities and expansive open green space designed to meet the needs of the area's growing population.

Delivered in partnership with Wollondilly Shire Council, the park has been carefully planned to enhance the local environment while protecting surrounding bushland and nearby koala habitat. The project aims to provide residents with greater opportunities for recreation, outdoor activity and social connection.

The park includes one kilometre of walking trails, pedestrian access from Appin Road, a dedicated car park, shaded picnic areas with barbecues, accessible amenities, bubblers and nature-inspired playground equipment including a lyrebird climbing structure, flying fox and swings. Existing native vegetation has also been preserved throughout the site.

Toggerai Park's design reflects extensive community consultation and acknowledges the area's Aboriginal heritage.

The name "Toggerai" is the Dharawal word for the nearby Georges River, while the park's signature lyrebird play structure honours the lyrebird as a totem of the Dharawal people.

Residents are invited to celebrate the official opening at a free Community Day on Saturday, 19 July, featuring a fun run, lawn games, children's story time, food and family-friendly activities.

The project forms part of the NSW Government's broader investment in creating liveable communities, alongside funding for open space, active transport and improved infrastructure in growing suburbs.

Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren said the park would become an important community asset for one of the state's fastest-growing regions.

"Appin is one of the fastest-growing communities in New South Wales and locals deserve the same quality green spaces as anywhere else in Sydney," Mr Warren said.

"Toggerai Park is exactly what this community has been waiting for – a place for families to come together, for kids to play and explore, and for residents to connect with the natural environment right on their doorstep.

"The Minns Labor Government is delivering for Appin, and I look forward to Toggerai Park becoming a cherished part of this community for years to come."
